The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most famous and iconic constructions around the world. One of the most popular attractions of San Francisco is only mile and a half from the Fisherman’s Wharf. Once a site for the first lighthouse built on the Pacific Coast, has become a federal prison from 1934-1963. This infamous federal prison was housing even the most notorious convicts like George Machine Gun Kelly or Al Capone. Now, the famous prison island Alcatraz, is part of the Bay Area’s 80.000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
One of the busiest tourist areas in the city is the Fisherman’s Wharf. On the northern waterfront you will find wonderful souvenir shops and stalls, where you can get crab or clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls. And if you are a fan of marine life, you can search for the colony of sea lions or the historic ships tour. In the famed former chocolate factory at Ghirardelli Square, you’ll find plenty of boutiques and eateries.

The Coit Tower, with a series of fresco mural on the ground floor lobby by some 30 local artists is still standing tall, being one of the most visited landmarks in San Francisco.
